Lavina Jo Miller, M.S., LLP, DBT & CBT

Are you finding it hard to live the kind of life others seem to have—no matter how much you’ve tried, it feels just out of reach? Do certain emotions, thoughts, or behaviors keep standing in the way of your happiness? Every behavior serves a purpose, often as a way to cope with uncomfortable feelings. Sometimes those behaviors help us, but other times, even if they provide temporary relief, they end up causing more problems.

Hi, I’m Jo. I hold a Bachelor of Science from Madonna University and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. I am extensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and licensed as a Masters Limited Psychologist in Michigan. With over 30 years of experience, I’ve had the privilege of providing individual, couples, and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults.

My approach begins by creating a safe, empowering space where you feel truly heard, seen, and understood—without judgment. From there, we work together to identify the feelings (such as depression, anxiety, low self-worth, or self-doubt) and behaviors (like suicidal or self-injurious actions, substance use, anger outbursts, or school refusal) that stand between you and the life you want. I’ll teach you skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness—tools to help you meet your needs and improve your relationships. When these skills take root, those old, unhelpful behaviors lose their hold, opening the door for real change and the chance to build your most meaningful life.
